Letters to a Church in Exile – Letter Two

Letters to a Church in Exile-TwoLetter Number Two: Start Influencing the World. When we elect a president of the United States of America that has said publicly that no one religion has a corner on the truth and has shown this by his inclusion of the teachings from other world religions in his speeches then we have stopped influencing the world. Or when we allow the Dalai Lama to give the opening prayer at the U.S. Senate then we have stopped influencing the world. Or when most churches have now … integrated the teachings of psychology into their biblical counseling then we have stopped influencing the world. Or when we have allowed our children to attend public schools that no longer teach creationism, stripped their walls of the Ten Commandments, and has kept our children from praying or sharing Christ publicly then we have stopped influencing the world. Tragically the world is now influencing the church. Jesus Christ summed it up by saying, ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men” (Matthew 5:13) Our influence, our testimony is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men!  Why, because we have lost our saltiness.

The truth of God’s Word is no longer relevant in the hearts and minds of most men and women who claim to be Christians. They have lost their saltiness. Most are aware that salt is used as a preservative; without it the thing being preserved would rot, decay, and eventually perish. In the same way, when the Church stops influencing the world through its living testimony then the world also would become rotten, decay, and eventually perish. So how can it be made salty again? Is it possible? Yes, I believe that it is, if the Church returns to the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and then lives out that truth before the world. That is the key! We must live out the truth of God’s Word before the world. There are many Christians (most in name only) say that they believe many different things and are anxious to debate or argue their beliefs with others, but through their actions (or non-actions) do very little to influence the world for Christ. Why, because they have not become a living testimony of Christ Jesus. They have not allowed His Word to really transform their miserable lives into a beautiful new creation.  For example, you may say quite enthusiastically that God has given you everything you need for life and godliness (See II Peter 1:3-4) but then seek instruction from the world’s professionals to solve your multitude of emotional and psychological problems. Because you have not taken the time to discover the 127 beautiful commands to believers in the New Testament and apply them to your life, then you have allowed the doctrine of demons to enter the church. Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teachings. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make out home with him” (John 14:23 It is these commands that teach us how to build and maintain relationships, how to properly communicate one with another, how to solve our emotional and psychological problems (many of them caused by the fiery darts of the evil one) along with many other beautiful truths to live by. It is living out these truths that will change you – growing you from one degree of glory to another making you into a beautiful new creation. Only then can we be made salty again influencing the world for Christ.

Now that we have briefly looked at the true gospel and its living testimony to a world in captivity then we need to see where the false gospel has taken the worldly church along with the remainder of the population. World powers will continue to bash one another over petty grievances while a greater power is at work putting the whole world under the thumb of those who are in opposition to God’s rule.  We don’t need to indentify the opposition at this point but rather admit that it’s real and very powerful; that there is nothing we can do to stop it. On the other hand, we can enlist more people day by day into the resistance. To enlist those who are willing to follow God by proclaiming the true gospel through words and action. To fellowship with those who are committed by faith in an all powerful God who will in His time crush the rebellion and judge those who are in opposition to His rule. To truly join the resistance one must understand what they are standing against, they must understand what they are resisting. In Germany those who stood in opposition to Adolph Hitler understood clearly that this evil man had captivated the hearts and minds of a population to do the unthinkable. So powerful was this evil that the very dogma of the German church was being changed to align with the new State doctrine.  Someone once said, “It’s rather easy to fight what you can see, but how do you fight an idea?” So before we proceed it’s absolutely essential we understand we cannot keep looking for a particular person, a certain party, or even a government to fight, but rather we must understand the idea, the powerful influence that’s captivating the hearts and minds of the entire world.

Only after we have fully understood this false gospel can we wield the sword of the Spirit, only then can we effectively proclaim the true gospel of Jesus Christ to a world in captivity. This false gospel has convinced the world that God is incapable of solving their problems. It has blinded them to the truth and given them a new “idea” that mankind has the ability to change the world.  It has convinced the world that mankind has power within himself to discern the truth from every religion (because it’s taught that no one religion has the corner on the truth) and use that with modern scientific discoveries to chart his own destiny allowing himself to live a bountiful life apart from trusting in God alone.  So how do you fight an “idea?” You fight it with another “idea!” We must proclaim from the rooftops that only God has the ability to change the world and does that by transforming one person at a time. It is past time for all churches to burn every text book, erase every hard drive, and destroy every CD that has integrated the lie of Satan into the pure Word of God. Men of God must counsel from the Bible alone and destroy all the psycho-Babel that has so integrated the churches of this country. Churches must either change the public school system by demanding that creationism be taught and that all text books not approved by the Church be destroyed or their children will be withdrawn and taught by godly men and women who have trusted in Christ alone. Of course this can all be done peacefully one step at a time demonstrating the love of God to those who have been blinded by the god of this world. The bottom line dear friends, is if we are not influencing the world then we as the church are being influenced by the world thus having our testimony “thrown out and trampled by men.”

  1. As always, so beautifully well-written!
Church, it is way past time for us to ‘get salty!’ If we don’t stand for something, then we will fall for anything. I pray that many will be influenced by your blog, that it will sink in, and Christians will rise up. We are all surrounded daily by hurting people in dark world, our neighbors, our friends, that don’t truly know about the love of Jesus. Let’s all be salt and light, and make it a point to choose this day whom we may serve, before we end up serving this world.

Thank you, Rev. Blair! May God continue to bless you, and your ministry.
    Press on.
